A mountain dream comes true!

Come, and let us take you to our hide away! At the top of the mountain village Ustaoset you will find our hunting castle "Hallinghi". On all sides you see beautiful mountain lakes, massive mountains and high mountain plateaus that stretch as far as the eye can see. From here you also look straight up at one of Norway's largest glaciers - the Hardangerjøkulen.

Here, you can do everything, and you can do nothing. You will experience magical summer days where we take you on a hike into the national park. You can sink into the heather and we will serve  you fresh coffee made on the fire. You hear the bees buzzing, accompanied by the trickle of the mountain stream that flows by.

Or, you can explore something even more magical; Weather! Quite a lot of weather! Indoor you will find your own cozy nook. And with the sound of crackling wood in the fireplace, you let yourself be seduced and excited by today's performance. It takes place right outside the windows. Violent wind and fresh snow are choreographing their own dance. They call it Snowstorm.

After exploring the mountains, you can enjoy our own Mountain SPA. Let a relaxing sauna be your body's reward after today's hardships out in the mountains. In the massage bath you can enjoy a glass of something good, with a beautiful view over Lake Ustevatn and Hardangervidda.

The aromas from the chefs' preparations for the evening's Mountain Gourmet Dinner really begin to seep around our little hunting castle. I wonder, What might be on the menu? The scent is reminiscent of Mushrooms! It could be Mushroom soup of Chanterelles that we have picked down in the hill. It could be Mountain Trout from a nearby fishing pond. And it could be Lamb who has been out in the national park, right behind the cabin all summer. We found the Mullet in a bog down by Ustevatn.

The gripping story of Hallinghi and Ustaoset is one of the real highlights of the day! Before setting the table, we enjoy an apéritif in front of the fireplace and hear the story of people who have left their mark on "Hallinghi" and our surrounding area. In our wonderful hunting castle, we don't have room numbers, but room names, which value the people who ARE our history.

I want to tell the moving story of people who have been important to me, to Ustaoset and to Norway. A tear or two has been shed in the effort to uncover these stories. The strongest thing has probably been making contact with Torunn Garin's family in the USA, the family that built Hallinghi at the beginning of this century. Torunn died of cancer at home in New York right after the construction project was completed. She got to experience her big family dream at Ustaoset just once.
