Exciting year-round destination
W E H I R E !
HEAD CHEF to a full-time position
Mountain Gourmet - Leadership - Responsibility - Development potential
Start date: October/November 2025

A historic hotel from 1917. An unique gem just between Oslo and Bergen on the Bergen Railway.

Our restaurant and kitchen are widely known far beyond the valley for its warm atmosphere and culinary standard.

A team of few, but highly skilled employees - we work closely together and we are like a small family.
GEILO – One of Norway's most dynamic and exciting year-round destinations
Nestled between the stunning Hardangervidda and Hallingskarvet National Parks, the village of Geilo offers a wealth of outdoor activities in both summer and winter. Geilo is not only a spectacular place to visit but also a wonderful place to live. With a safe and welcoming local community, it's an ideal setting for both adventure and a high quality of life. A short three-hour train journey connects you to Norway's two largest cities, Oslo and Bergen.
ABOUT GEILO MOUNTAIN LODGE
We are a proud member of The Historic Hotels & Restaurants, and a small, family-run hotel with just 9 guest rooms. Located in the heart of Geilo, our stately lodge is home to what is often referred to as the best restaurant in the valley.
We offer a unique and intimate atmosphere, where exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, and tranquil surroundings are our top priorities. Our ambition is to be the finest destination for the combination of food, drink, accommodation, and authentic mountain experiences in the region.
Our food concept is Mountain Gourmet – celebrating local and seasonal ingredients from the Hallingdal Valley, including wild game, fish, berries, mushrooms, and foraged treasures from the surrounding nature.
WE ARE NOW SEEKING A HEAD CHEF
As our new Head Chef, you will take a leading role in developing and executing our culinary vision. You will be responsible for both day-to-day kitchen operations and the creative development of menus that reflect our Mountain Gourmet philosophy.
To ensure a smooth start, you will be introduced step by step in close cooperation with our current Head Chef, who remains with us until February 2026. In addition, the owner of the Lodge – himself a trained Diploma Chef with long professional experience – will serve as an active support network not only throughout your onboarding, but also in the daily operations. As the owner is actively involved in the Lodge, you will always have a competent sparring partner who understands both the craft and the business side of the kitchen.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR YOU WHO...
- Are an educated and trained chef, with documented experience in leading a kitchen (Head Chef, Sous Chef etc.)
- Have strong culinary knowledge and a passion for high-quality, local, and seasonal ingredients
- Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide, and support a small team
-
Possess a structured and organized work ethic with a sense of responsibility and initiative
-
Value team spirit, respect, and cooperation as highly as culinary excellence
-
Communicate confidently in English (Norwegian is an advantage, but not required) – and since our current chefs are from Spain and Argentina, you will also benefit from being part of a Spanish-speaking "dream team," where cultural understanding and the comfort of discussing the small day-to-day details in your own language become a natural advantage
-
Appreciate the lifestyle of living in a mountain village – nature-loving is a plus, but not a requirement
OUR RECRUITMENT PROCESS
We believe finding the right match is about more than just skills – it's also about personality and fit. To ensure this, all candidates go through a personality test as part of the process. This helps us understand both team dynamics and your personal needs, so that we can create the best possible working environment together.
Our steps:
-
Application Review – We assess applications continuously, focusing on experience, skills, and motivation.
-
Initial Interview – Selected candidates are invited for an online or phone interview.
-
Personality Test – To understand leadership style, communication, and personal needs.
-
Reference Check – We will ask for three references from relevant employers to verify previous work experience, professional skills, and team compatibility.
-
Trial Working Day at the Lodge – Shortlisted candidates cook with our team and prepare a meal for the staff. Then we eat together and get to know each other.
-
Final Interview & Offer – Alignment of expectations before a formal offer.
-
Onboarding & Integration – A structured onboarding ensures a smooth start.
